Tip Cards

All you need to know, on an easy to read card

BLF = Before Last Frost
ALF = After Last Frost

Broccoli

-Start 6 weeks BLF inside
-Start 2 weeks BLF outside
-Harden plants 1-2 weeks
-Plant 12-24″ apart
-Mulch with compost or straw
-Water well when heads appear
-Don’t let them get dry
-Sun is okay, likes cooler temps
-Harvest when buds are green and tight
-Yellow broccoli is bad
-Blanch and freeze upon harvest


Carrots

-Start outdoors ALF
-No frost
-plant 2″ apart in a block
-Mulch once plants mature
-Even water levels
-Grows best at 60-75 degrees
-Stop sowing at 80 degrees. Re-sow in autumn
-Cover from rain if possible

Cucumbers

-Start inside 4 weeks BLF
-Mulch around planting @12-18″ radius
-Water deeply 1 or 2 times weekly
-Harvest regularly
-Bitterness caused by overwatering or drought


Marigolds

-Attracts bees and other pollinators
-Repels harmful garden pests
-Wards off nematodes
-Attracts aphids which attracts Ladybugs
-Low Maintenance
-Beautiful

Peppers

-Start inside 8-10 weeks BLF
-Harden plants for 2 weeks
-Warm soil to 65 degrees
-Frost kills
-Remove first few blooms 
-Cover if temps are >90 for too long
-8-10 Hours sun a day
-Plant 12-18″ apart
-Mulch friendly

Tomatoes

-Start inside 6-8 weeks BLF
-loves an even moisture level
-Full sun is a bonus
-Harden plants before transplant outdoor
-warm soil before transplanting
-Plant 14-18″ apart
-Mulch friendly
-Prune dead areas
